Have you ever wondered why mooncakes are such a special tradition during the mid autumn festival? Here is a fun mythical story below:

 
Long ago in ancient China lived a master at archery, Hou Yi, one year ten sun's rose out of the skies together wrecking havoc on the lands below and causing chaos all over. Hou Yi stepped up and shot all but one of the suns down, leaving one to provide light for the people. As a reward, the heavens gifted Hou Yi the elixir of immortality and a place in the heavens. However, Hou Yi loved his wife Chang'e so deeply he refused to use the elixer of immortality and decided to stay mortal with her instead. He stored away the elixir of immortality and lived happily with his wife. One night, someone broke into the couple's home while Hou Yi was away and found the elixir of immortality. In order to prevent the criminal from gaining immortality, Chang'e instead drank the elixir herself and rose to the heavens. Wanting to be as close to her beloved husband as possible she chose to stay on the moon. Deeply saddened, Hou Yi began putting out some of Chang'e's favorite treats out as an offering. Other people slowly began to pick up on the ritual and as a sign of sympathy towards Hou Yi also began making the offerings. And thus the tradition of gifting moon cakes was born. Celebrating the time where the moon is closest to earath. And Chang'e closest to her beloved Hou Yi.
